Wheatgrass For Soft Tissue Injuries & Disorders
|
By virtue of its powerful hemostatic and anti-inflammatory properties wheatgrass can perform extremely well healing and restoring function to soft tissue injuries and disorders. For example, in ankle sprains, soft tissue swelling and pain can reduce dramatically in a few hours. It is therefore an ideal substance to use in sporting injuries where rapid resolution of bleeding, pulled muscles and soft tissue swelling is desired. It's ability to staunch cutaneous bleeding quickly (a few minutes) makes it an ideal substance for contact sports.
Wheatgrass, unlike capsaicin and other natural wound healing substances can safely be applied to open wounds such as lacerations, leg ulcers and burns.
Bruising, hematomas
Apply immediately over bruised or swollen area once daily. Significant reduction in swelling & pain overnight is the usual outcome.
Cracked heels
Apply three times a day to skin fissures & thickened skin. Rapid softening of skin & pain relief. Fissures may heal in 2 to 3 weeks.
De Quervain’s tenosynovitis
Apply to area of tenderness 3 or 4 times a day. Splint wrist & continue treatment for at least 4 weeks if not responding.
Ganglion
Apply 2 or 3 times daily. Continue for at least a month. Can diminish ganglion size or eliminate it completely.
Muscle Cramps
Apply as required. Can relieve pain & cramping. Particularly useful in the elderly.
Plantar fasciitis
Apply a small amount once or twice a day to point(s) of maximum tenderness. Sometimes rapid relief even after years of constant pain. Usually takes a month or two. Excellent maintenance treatment for pain recurrence.
Post -massage pain
Apply WG sparingly to massage area then apply massage medium. Can produce marked pain reduction.
Pulled muscles
Apply WG as soon as possible after injury. Locate area of pain and tenderness & massage in. Repeat tds. Overnight pain reduction & significantly faster return to normal function is the norm.
Sprained ankle
Apply immediately to injured tissue then ice & compress. Repeat after ice removed. Do not massage. Marked reduction in swelling, pain reduction & faster recovery can occur.
Shin splints
Simply apply over the painful area several times a day. Either wheatgrass cream or spray can be used and is the only therapeutic agent I have ever known to assist in this condition.
Tennis elbow
Apply 3 times a day to point of maximum tenderness. Can effect pain reduction in acute lesions & resumption of function.
Tenosynovitis, fibrositis
Locate point of maximum tenderness & massage in. As for tennis elbow.
Anecdote:
A young cabinetmaker on his honeymoon had suffered constant pain in the buttock radiating to the knee while in a sitting position for 12 days. It commenced during a long flight from London to Singapore making his life almost unbearable. He sought treatment/massage from an osteopath to no avail. Examination revealed a normal knee joint, but marked localised tenderness in the upper gluteal region. Wheatgrass concentrate and cream were used to massage the area. His pain had gone by the time he left the surgery 20 minutes later.
Comment: I have had similar experiences with hundreds of patients over the years. Most particularly with acute lumbar strains (quadratus lumborum etc.). i.e. find the tender spot and briefly massage the wheatgrass in to the area.
Trigger finger
Apply over “trigger” point 3 times a day.“Trigger” can free up in 2-3 days or sooner. Pain may take weeks or months to resolve completely. Often works and surgery avoided. |
